Abstract     In our research we tested the River Habitat Survey as a system for assessing the quality of river habitats. This was the first encounter with the RHS in Slovenia. The aim of our study was to test the applicability of the method. We checked 14 sites in water ditches of the Ljubljansko barje using the River Habitat Survey (RHS). After checking the evaluated data we categorised the sites with regard to HQA and HMS scores. Iščica is the site with the highest HQA score and Kušlanov graben with the lowest HQA score. Iščica was categorised as of best quality also with regard to HMS and Črna mlaka was the most modified site. The most common modifications were resection, bridges, reinforeed banks and weirs. RHS has proven useful, because it enables categorisation of water ditches according to habitat quality. Ditches can be categorised by the extent and type of artificial modification, it can be determined which modifications are the most common and where their number was highest. It shows us what measures should be taken to improve habitat quality orto re-establish the pristine state.
Summary     V raziskavi smo preizkusili metodo RHS (River Habitat Survey) kot metodo za ugotavijanje kakovosti rečnih habitatov glede na fizične lastnosti struge in obrežnega pasu. Na območju Ljubljanskega barja smo z njo obdelali štirinajst vodnih jarkov. Po pridobljenih podatkih smo popisna območja kategorizirali glede na ocenitev kakovosti habitata (HQA) in glede na točkovanje posegov v habitat (HMS). Najboljšo oceno kakovosti habitata HQA ima po metodi RHS Iščica z največjo raznolikostjo habitatov, najslabšo pa Kušlanov graben. Tudi glede na točke HMS je najbolje kategorizirana Iščica, najbolj spremenjena pa je Črna mlaka. Najpogostejši posegi so izrezanje bregov in struge v trapezno korito, mostovi, utrjevanje bregov ter zajeziive. Metoda RHS se je izkazala za uporabno, saj omogoča kategorizacijo vodnih jarkov po kakovosti habitatov. S to metodo se dajo kategorizirati jarki glede na stopnjo posegov vanje, da se ugotoviti, kateri posegi so najbolj pogosti in kje je bilo teh posegov največ. Z ugotovitvijo vrste posegov lahko sklepamo, kateri ukrepi bi bili potrebni, da bi se kakovost habitatov izboljšala oziroma povrnila v prvotno stanje.
