Abstract     Introduction: In the past, in relation to tissue repair, materials used and procedures undertaken were often perpetuated as it was simply 'tradition' and 'what was always done'. EBM may help the introduction of technologies that are more beneficial to the patient. Clinical practice should be supported by an evidence base, to provide the best possible outcome for fhe client and ensure appropriate utilization of resources for an instifution. Methods: Evidence based medicine health care (EBM) is patient care based on evidence derived from fhe best available studies. It is the process of finding relevant information in the medical literature to address a specific clinical problem. The approach tries to offer objective input, applying scientitic data relevant for clinical-medical decisions to be made. Discusslon: The source of data and level of evidence for the development of guidelines may vary. Informafion may be obtained from a systematic review of all relevant randomized controlled trials. The advantage of randomization is that there is no systematic bias, although there is no guarantee that the selected groups will be equal. In ordinary life, treatment is not random, therefore outcome studies may play a role. Regarding Meta-analysis, if the number of studies is large and the results inconsistent, if is difficult to draw conclusions. Narrative reviews (i.e. case studies) are often subject to potential bias, but may be useful to gather experience in the early stages of the introduction of a technology.
