Abstract     Cochlear implant can substitute the function of the inner ear and therefore enable the deaf to percept sound. Prelingual deaf children have a possibility to develop their language abilities. Children with cochlear implant gain language abilities in the same way as hearing children but they have many individual differences. The most important factor is the time of obtaining the implant or in other words the lenght of deafness. At The Centre for Hearing and Speech Maribor seventeen children with cochlear implant are in treatment. Their language development is monitored by Reynells scales and by attending and testing the listening development. Our results confirm foreign experience on the importance of the assignment time, ways of environment communication and individual particularities in the language development.
