Abstract     Communication with other people is one of the basic human needs and it comprises much more than only speaking. With speech, we express our volition, wishes, orders, emotions and other feelings, by it we enrich our knowledge and experiences. In order to be able to speak, one has first to learen a language. Perception abilities are those that we use to understand others and communicate with them, also through speaking. The language acquisition process is a continuing process, which occurs in the prelingual communication stage and must start in the first weeks of a baby's life. Since all these factors are so important, it is necessary that we start a speech therapy early if we suspect or know that a child has developmental disorders and to include parents in the therapy.
