Abstract		In a group of 51 patients with Reinke's oedema on vocal folds, the aetiology of the disease and specially the recurrent disease was assessed. The data were obtained from the patients' histories, the findings of ENT examinations and allergy tests. The results of the study showed that a combination of several factors acting simultaneously is crucial for the recurrent disease. The role of allergy is probably as important in the aetiology of first occurrence as in the recurrent disease after surgical treatment.
