Abstract     For a woman, loss of the whole breast or part of it represents a great functional and aesthetic disturbance, frequently associated with emotional disturbances as well. Modern methods of breast carcinoma treatment tend towards less mutilating surgical procedures. At the same time, current reconstructive surgery is capable of reconstructing any breast defect or loss of the whole breast. At present, numerous possibilities for breast reconstruction are at our disposal, from the most simple using breast implants to the most complex primary microsurgical reconstructions using autogeno tissue. At General Hospital Maribor, where we have been concerned with breast cancer treatment for many years past, in recent years Prof. Zoran Arne helped us to also take our first steps in the field of reconstructive breast surgery.
