Abstract | Background: The use of seat belts has greatly reduced mortality and serious injury in car accidents. However, belts themselves can produce serious lesions, particularly if incorrectly placed. Patients: We present a case report of a patient with severe intestinal, mesenteric and large vessel injury due toa seat belt. Conclusions: The proper use of seat belts raises survival in road accidents. On the other hand seat belts may cause injuries which, when unknown, may cause death. A special attention should be made to some physical signs of seat belt use and misuse. | |
