Abstract     This research aims to fill the gap regarding the measures taken when treating the postoperative pain. This gap is a consequence due to the lack of feedback information on how a determined analgesic mixture, applied through the epidural catheter, can relieve pain, and the lack of information on how frequent and how important are individual side effects of the analgesic mixtures and the observed complications. The results have shown that - according to this research - in our hospital patients with epidural analgesia have VAS (visual analogue scale) in first 48 hours and complications as follows: the mean basal VAS is 1,9; VAS when moving, coughing or during respiratory physiotherapy is 3,9; the catheter was displaced or deconnected in 8% of cases. This VAS values refer to those patients who had epidural analgesia with epidural catheter placed at least 48 hours. Those with epidural catether displacement and those whom the epidural catheter had been removed in first 48 hours because of side effects, are not included. In less than 14% of patients the basal VAS was more than 3.
