Abstract     Presented in the article is a concept of occupation and development of occupation through different periods of childhood. A comparison is drawn between the most important activities from the occupation domain in a group of children with developmental disorders and those in a group of healthy children. Forty children with and without disoders answered a study questionnaire on the activities they found most important of all; they also rated each of the activies in terms of the performance of the occupation and the sucess as achieved. Signifiant differences were found between the groups with different levels of handicap with regard to the importance of single occupations and the satisfaction derived from the performance. It is important to actively integrate the childinto the planning of occupational therapy treatment. Occupation therapist, however, must simultaneously focus his attention also upon the problematic fields of occupation.
