Abstract     Behavioural-cognitive therapy is one of the therapeutic approaches of the occupational therapy in psychiatry. Characteristic of this approach is that individual's emotions and behaviour are not directly dependent on external factors but on himself and his way of experiencing these external factors, on the way he feels about a specific situation, and on his way of thinking. The thoughts appearing in a situation are always consistent with one's basic beliefs about oneself and the world around oneself. With the help of relaxation techniques man learns how to control his bodily symptoms which are triggered by one's thoughts at experiencing various situations. At the beginning one controls only single bodily symptoms while later on the relaxation techniques also influence the efficiency of cognitive functions. Relaxation techniques represent one of the methods for controlling everyday stress and for reducing its negative effects.
