Abstract     Article reviews bacterial species and their sensitivity to antibiotics in blood cultures taken in the years 2000- 2002 in General Hospital Maribor. Authors ascertain that 12.763 blood cultures were taken from 5.674 patients in 3 years period. Positive hemoculture was found at 867 patients or 15,3%. Number of hemocultures taken per 1000 hospitalisations was 90/2000, 83i2001 and 100/2002, respectively. The predominant Bacteria isolated in hemocuttures were Gram positive Bacteria wifh 47,5% (Staphylococcus aureus on leading position), followed by Gram negative 8acteria with 45% (Escherichia coli predominant in this group), Fungi 5% and anaerobic bacteria 2,5%. Polymycrobial bacteremias without contaminants were observed in 5,3%. Sensitivity tests still showed satisfying results, even though some resultes already worrying Presented results are fhe reflection of epidemic situation in Iocal enviroment - General Hospital Maribor, which has a major impact on empirical antibiotic treatment.
