Abstract     The incidence of fungal infections is increasing in recent decades and the most common cause of infection is Candida spp. Infections due to Candida are an important cause of morbidify and mortality in hospitalized patients. Candida albicans is the most common species detected but an increase in the proportion of Candida non-albicans infections is observed. The demografic, clinical and microbiological data of patients with isolated fungi in blood cultures in period from 2000 to 2002 was analyzed. 36 patient were analyzed, 30,6% of them were neonates. All the others were older than 18 years. The mean age of the adults was 60,8 years. There were 60% male among them and 84% of them had received antifungal therapy. Overall mortality was 36%. Candida albicans was isolated in 50% of patients and was the most common species. Hansenula anomala was isolated in 11,3% of patients, all were neonates. Candida parapsilosis and Candida glabrata were isolated in 8,3% of patients.
