Abstract     Extrapyramidal diseases are common neurodegenerative disorders which, in addition to the extrapyramidal system affect other systems including autonomous, sensory, cognitive functions and in some patients also pyramidal and cerebellar systems. With the advent of symptomatic pharmacological therapies, various rating scales have been developed with an aim to evaluate symptoms and signs of extrapyramidal diseases and therapeutic efficacy. The article presents some frequently used specific scales for estimation of impairment and disability as well as of the quality of patient's life. One of the most frequently used rating scales is Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) which proved to be valid and reliable but somewhat more time-consumable. In 2002, 30 patients with extrapyramidal diseases were evaluated at the Institute for Rehabilitation. The UPDRS was used for the estimation of the functional state before and after the rehabilitation program. Statistically significant improvement of the patients' functional state was found
