Abstract     In his M. Sc. thesis, the author presents the results of a computer assisted analysis off data which he has gathered by studying the incidence of disease and the certified sickness absence of the native Slovene and the immigrant workers of four working organizations in Kamnik during the five-year period from 1985 to 1989. A total of 610 workers was included in the study, 320 being native Slovens and 320 immigrants from other Yugoslav republics who had been working in Kamnik for at least five years and who resembled the Slovene workers at closely as possible with respect to a number of relevant characteristics, such as age, family circumstances (single, living together with their family, not living with their family), duration of employment, and sex. The number and duration of spells of sickness absence, and reasons for absence in individual groups of workers, formed on the basis of the above mentioned criteria, have then been examined and compared. The main findings of the study are the following: - The number of absences in the group of non-Slovene workers in by 30,9 per cent higher than that in the group of Slovene workers. - The number of working days lost due to sickness absence (duration of spell of absence) in the group of non-Slovene workers is by 20,8 per cent higher that in the group of Slovene workers. - During the period under consideration the difference in duration of spell between the group of non Slovene and the group of Slovene workers was on the constant increase, the difference being the greatest in 1989. - The frequency of sickness absence due to the psychosomatic diseases and symptoms in the group of non-Slovene workers is by 267 per cent higher than that in the group of Slovene workers. - The number ob absences due to the psychosomatic diseases and symptoms in the group of non-Slovene workers is 3,35 times higher than that in the group of Slovene workers.(trunc.)
