Abstract     Blood samples from 181 Lipizzaners of the Lipica stud were typed for the Tf-locus by the method of polyacrylamid gel electrophoresis. Relative gene frequencies were: D 0.0829, D2 0.0055, D3 0.0442, F1 0.3067, F2 0.0276, H1 0.0055 and O 0.5276. Two cases of incorrectly reported parentship were discovered, yet a single locus cannot suffice for screening the population. The relation between transferrins and fertility was devided into three components and each of them was studied separately. 1 . Homozygosity on the Tf-locus is a datum that serves as a measure of the overall homozygosity. The higher it is, the lower is fertility. 2. There are differences in the phenotypic effects of aleles from the Tflocus which are involved in fertility. Alele F2 is particularly interesting as it may influence abortion. In bacteriological environment this alele is more successful than the others, though. 3. Homozygosity on the Tf-locus by itself carries its physiologic consequences that influence fertility. The frst component, an already known one, was confirmed again. The latter two, contributed by us, were also proved to some extent.
