Abstract     First aid as immediate treatment of an injured person or a person suddenly taken ill on the spot and as soon as possible after the event using simple resources is a duty, binding us as citizen from the moral and legal point of view. We are also obliged to act in this way by Article 2 of the Health care and health insurance law of 1992. The above mentioned law states that everybody must provide first aid.for the injured or sick person in case of emergency according to their power and abilities, and enable the injured or the sick access to medical assistance. With the questionnaire including ten questions on the knowledge about granting first aid we wanted to find out if our citizen posessed enough necessary knowledge, where and when they had acquired it and if they had ever found themselves in circumstances when they had to use this knowledge. We also wanted to know if this knowledge was sound enough or if it needed additional training. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters)
