Abstract     The number of acute poisoning cases caused by drugs rises accordingly with the rising number of drug addicts. This fact is reflected in the statistical data provided by The Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Slovenia. Clinical presentation of drug poisoning depends on the type of the drug used, the impurities it includes, mode of its administration, simultaneous use of alcohol, drugs or other chemicals and complications of the poisoning. Naloxone is a specific antidote used in opiate poisonings, whilst other drug poisonings are treated symptomaticaly. Role of naloxone treatment in cases of combined poisonings is limited.
