Abstract     In prehospital unit we tried a new procedure for intravenus (i.v.) canals in which we began to place it higher than in the cubital position and below elbow. The procedure is exactly the same as all other vein punctures. We observed that the procedure on the upper arm is less painful. In the movement of arms in unsettled patients the flow of the infusion fluid did not stop. Canals of the largest size can be used. Fixation of the canal was easier. We observed in a large number of cases that viens were not visablue, so that the placement in patients or injured people was carried out "blind". In the majority of cases the veins are crooked and it is necessary to fix them by finger, so that they can be punctured. We ascertained that placement of the i.v. canals in the above elbow area requires great capability and more knowledge than the other vein placement. Regarding the results, it is logical that above the elbow vein placement is not considered successful due the number of tries in puncturing remaining veins.
