Abstract     The concept of myofascial pain represents a new paradigm in pain therapy for the musculoskeletal system of human body It is assumed that this pain has its origin in the muscles. Overload or traumatic over-stretchtng of the muscles may result in zones with nonreversible contraction of sarcomeres which may become ischaemic and therefore painful This painful spots are the so-called "trigger points": The affected muscle spots can be palpated by digital pressure and the taut bands recognized. Pressing these taut bands, willproducepain which will usually be referred to other parts of the human body. For the neck muscles, this pain frequently refers to the head. The referred pain makes it difficult to localise the source of symptoms. If the trigger point is identified, it can be treated by the appropriate manual therapy and acute and chronic pain can be removed enduringly.
