Abstract     The authors describe the value of national bioplatforms within the EPBRS network and looks specifically at the Slovenian National Bioplatform whose main objectives are to prepare the national strategy for biodiversity research, organise interdisciplinary research programmes and priority tasks, integrate with other national bioplatforms and the European platform, identify positive and negative aspects of development and incorporate Slovenian research into international programmes. These objectives could help significantly in counteracting the developmental pressures on finalization of the national sustainable development strategy and brigding the communication gap between policy, spatial development planners, investors, scientific institutions and professional non-governmental organisation.
